This is a type of moss, probably terrestrial. Take a shot of it underwater. The local expert on mosses or bryophytes would be Dr Benito Tan at NUS. You can probably find his email or a way to contact him via the RMBR website. There should be moss specialists too in Indonesia, that can help you better if your friend found this in Indonesia. Have you tried the local university? Perhaps a researcher there can answer your query better.
I think I saw a similar looking moss while browsing a guide book on bryophytes done by Dr Tan, and published by the Singapore Science Centre. I don't have the book on hand at the moment since it was just a quick browse at the bookstore some time ago.

Could the moss you have be the same as this?
I got these from the hill in Lake Toba. They are quite big compared to other mosses.
So far they don't seem to do well under water, I have tried putting them half immersed at the outlet of my filter.
Still don't know what type of moss is it. I was found growing on the bark at the base of large pine trees in the forest.

They don't look so good underwater. Very pale colour. I split them up and try growing them in two different conditions
