any suggestions?
hi all, a friend asked me to help him setup his tank.
a 422 tank. both sides view as tank is kinda used as a partition.
he is looking at a vivarium / paludarium kinda setup as he and his wife both likes orchids and orchids suits vivariu / paludarium setup.
initially i was only thinking of a normal standard aquarium setup but when his orchid idea comes in, it kinda make me wanna get more ambitious... but.... his budget tight.... so i would like to get some ideas here and see any bros whom are experienced in doing such scaping want to help out? as i'm kinda noob in the setup too.
i recalled a few bros here whom are extremely experienced in paludarium setups and 1 of them did a scape for me many years back in a 1 ft tank. so i hope you can see this too.
thank you all!
regards,
ZD
any suggestions?
Orchids like sunlight, a bit of shade, moisture but not too much, so in a paludarium, it may be challenging, perhaps jewel orchids or air plants may be more suitable. but airplant needs "sunlight" and moving air, low moisture so no misting required. You can think about it.
You may want to try bamboo orchids. These guys grow in marsh land and they are pretty to see. ALl the paludariums that I built have bamboo orchids in them. If you need my help, you can give me a call at 93851997
Those plants grow tall... Why not try jewel orchids?

I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii
Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...
i was thinking of a change of idea, want it to be as simple as possible. so thought of the following.
have 3 "trunk" or "stalagmites" growing out of water. than these orchids will "grow" onto them...
this is the easiest. as he will not have to do anything to his current setup or add anything. just find big long DW that is able to stand tall and out of water...
worried is the weight of DW that might cause his cabinet to fail...
now is thinking of getting DW from malaysia. or any bros have any experience of DIY DW/BW? DW/BW are special wood?
You can get jumbo drift woods at Pioneer landscape at good prices. Otherwise try world farm. Prices is from SGD$2 per onward
