    Just want some advice if anybody has tried using the Grade 0 sand for planted tanks?
    I like the whitish powdery look..

    Plantas has a display tank using those very fine white sand... but not sure if it's the Grade 0 type u refering to...

    as said, it's fer display.... not sure whether the plants will thrive or not...... maybe Alan can give some advice.....

    No, that is not suitable for plants. In time, they will compact and (a) crush the plant roots, and (b) prevent new roots from penetrating.

    Gravel for plants should be at least 2 to 3mm in grain size.

    There is at least 1 way to use it - Use a divider to separate the front part of the tank from the back. Fill the front portion with basefert and fine sand and the back portion with basefert and plant-friendly gravel. Plant as per normal for your mid- and background and use nanas on driftwood/stones for your foreground. If you wish to attempt using normal forground plants, try having only 1cm of the fine sand on top of your basefert.

    Future rescaping and maintainance can be a big headache though ...
