I am setting up another 2ft planted tank.
Noticed this cotton like substance on the surface of the wood, with air bubbles constantly coming out of it.
Is it some kind of bacteria colony or fungus or algae?
How should i get rid of it?
    advice appreciated. thanks

A few SAEs took care of the stuff on mine.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

It's some fungus and is harmless to plants and fishes. Your algae crews should eat it.

    thanks for the replies.
seems that my old batch of algae crews are not very interested in this stuff...may need to "inject some new blood" by getting some more new ones.
btw, is there any quick ways to rid of them. I hv tried scalding it with boiling water but doesn't seems to kill them.

    White stuff on wood

Looks like fungus. "Scalding" with boiling water will only get some of those on the surface and even then the contact time is so short that most of the microorganism will not be killed.

You need to boil or least immersed the entire piece in hot boiling water for at least ten minutes and repeat the process once more. Then rinse off/scrub with a clean laundy brush.

Warning: The above process may result in leeching of the driftwood. So after the treatment, you might wish to soak it in water for another few days before another thoroughh rinsing with room temperature water prior to reintroducing it back into the tank.
