Hmm, i think you could be referring to a paddlefish? Actually its illegal to own or sell one in Singapore, and they are rather hard to keep. They need cool temperatures, and are filter feeders.
Hi all
Recently i went to serangoon and saw this cool looking fish. it's body really look like a shark with a long nose. like a saw fish. the uncle there told me its a parrot shark. i google and there is no such fish. i dont have any pictures of it. anyone can help?
he told me one for $280!

Paddlefish get HUGE - more than a metre in length. The record is 2.21 metres!
I don't know about the legal issues of selling paddlefish in Singapore. but like arapaima and other true monster fish they're most definitely more suitable for public aquariums.

hey all. yes you guys are right. paddle fish. i saw the guy selling it. he had 2, now left 1. not sure where it went. thanks guys. i havent read about it but saw the images.
I always thought such fish could only be saw on tv. (yap, i watch a lot of monster fish geographic show on cable tv) Maybe he got lobang? I heard the Singapore zoo have a whole new section of fish from the mekong river and amazon. i have not gone there yet though, will wait for the river safari to be completed and crowds to be lesser.
The River Safari has already opened: http://www.riversafari.com.sg/
The different zones (with various examples of fishes native to these specific rivers, based on text and images on the website) are:
Amazon Flooded Forest (South America): Arapaima, red-bellied piranha, red-tailed catfish, pacu
Mississippi (North America): Alligator gar, American paddlefish
Nile (East Africa): Giraffe catfish, African arowana, African tigerfish (Website doesn't say if Rift Valley cichlids are featured)
Congo (Central Africa): Mbu puffer, Congo tetra, jewel cichlid
Ganges (India): Goonch catfish
Murray (Australia): Australian lungfish, Murray cod
Mekong (Indochina): Mekong giant catfish, giant freshwater stingray, Siamese giant carp, silver shark
Yangtze (China): Sturgeon (probably Chinese sturgeon)
I believe most of the aquariums are available for viewing (the only section not ready at the moment is the Amazon River Quest boat ride).
It would be great if some AQ members could organise an outing to take a look at the diversity of fish species exhibited at the River Safari!
