Just updated the housing that holds my grobeam leds.

My previous solution wasn't ideal because i have to remove the shelf that holds the lights everything i do maintenance work and i end up working in darkness. So having suspended pendant lighting is definitely preferred.

For the current setup, the lights are mounted to 16x60 cm STUVA BETSAD drawer front from ikea, with 56cm Sera reflectors from greenchapter. The housing is suspending from the stainless steel stand that i have gotten from a taobao merchant. So this is the outcome.

110 ea is really expensive. I got a professional bender to bend for me plus the rod only cost less than $20 for each rod(stainless steel rod), the holder i got is industrial clamp cost less than a dollar each. Total for 1 rod plus bending and holder cost less than $20. That was few years ago but the price should not be much different. Just goggle for rod bender and you'll find those shop that can do for you.

tabao many version of this rod, you want another pattern also have.... there is a few not made from just one rod being bent.
if made from one rod, then quite expensive considering can easily buy a chrome/aluminum rod and ask people bend.

tongyang, there are alot of variations and recently seaview installed one that you might have seen in tabao before.

Re: My quest to search for the best light housing

This product became costly because of the shipping. I've seen the one at seaview. It is by kudeng but it is of a different design and the min length that they have is for 3ft tank. I wanted a simple single arm design like the ada stand for their solar i light, and i needed something reliable for aquarium use. So i went for this. It was a little bit too long, both length and height wise, so i've used a tube cutter to cut off the excess on both ends.

Re: My quest to search for the best light housing

Thanks for posting up your light stand design tongyang, looks great!

I'm also keen to explore the options for suspending lights too, i was working on a DIY one for my rack setup using PVC pipes and joints... it works but doesn't look as nice.

Does anyone have a link to taobao sellers for ready-made light stands? Or perhaps local metal shops which can make them?

Re: My quest to search for the best light housing

Hi UA, i got mine from 疯狂水草,
http://shop59915576.m.taobao.com/ , but through a local taobao agent. They got other great stuff too. There are also other sellers selling different designs and sizes. Since blue33 said that it is cheaper getting the rod locally, you might want to consider doing so. If mounting is a concern, can just import the brackets (fyi for 19mm diameter) from the taobao seller. At least shipping is cheaper. I was just lazy of knocking on doors of the local steel manufacturers so end up buying everything online.
