    hello

So i have not kept a aquarium for 10years or more.

Recently moved and figured what the heck i need a hobby.

    So i bought a small 17l tank
My place is rather small at this time but next year im getting a house so ill upgrade latter.

I setup the tank and boiled the castle in hot water and added it.

Now 1week latter i have added tetras and the castle has started getting this furry clear white mould

    Should i be worried.
Im adding plants today or tomorrow.

    With some wood

Then after a week 2 or 3 cherry shrimp

Remove the castle and just use clean water to clean it off. Put it in a pail of water and see if it happens again. If the mold starts again and if it bothers you then forget putting it in your tank.

It only bothers me if its harmful to the fishies.

I washed it so lets see.

I wonder if my shrimp will eat it.

doubt the shrimps will eat it.....while I cannot really see the mould clearly, it looks like the mould you see when leftover fish food starts to breakdown....

    Re: white clear mould

    Thanks David.

I ended up putting in some red cherry shrimp.

And 2 plattys (not so great idea)

the shrimp did not eat the mold but the plattys did.

Already 1 shrimp has lost shed skin and the little one is missing well it was eaten or hiding under a rock/wood.

I think the larger ones are happy as they do come out but the plattys do pester them.

    heres hoping they go well.

    Good to hear Keitaro

I think the most important think to remember is not to get too worried or stressed out about the hobby....if not where is the enjoyment?....LOL!

Stick to the golden rule.....when in doubt, ask first, do later....LOL!

    Re: white clear mould

just on this 1 week or so latter and I have a pregnant female red cherry shrimp x 2 so look like the tank is fine.

I removed the male platy as it was harassing the female too much and she is now pregnant too.

I think i will need to get 2 more females to take the heat off her. but i fear my 17l tank has too many occupants already.

    10 tetras 2 platy and 6 RCS

I think the Tetras are going to the main threat if you like to breed shrimps?.....I could be wrong though
