Normal daylight tube cost much cheaper as compared to the commercial planted FL tube?
Has anyone try that b4? What is the result?

    BT,

The normal tubes can be used for planted tank. If it's 6500K it should work for your plants. However, it would not be as good as those plant tubes u get from lfs.

As tawauboy recomended, you can try the Hitachi Extra Bright tubes (HEBT) which I had great results. The price is much lower compared to plant tubes too.
    Cheers!!

Normal FL light should be ok. Have been using them for 2-3 years.

Remember to ask for "Daylight" and not tose yellowish light.

Read that you must change the light every 6 mths even when the light still appear bright.

    Binbeto,
If you try just replacing one tube and compare, the old tubes are quite yellow. I was sceptical myself too when one of my tubes blew out. So I replaced one only. Can really see the difference.

Yap.. But too lazy to monitor when must change lah.. so in the end I change after a year or so.. Hee hee.. As long as my plants grow the way I wanted them to be no problem.

For those changing FL or PL tube, it is recommended not to change all at one time.
Rotate their replacement so that the light intesity won't increase too much. May stress the fish or cause algae bloom.

I.e. if have 2 tube A and B. Change A in Mar, change B in June, change A in Sep, change B in Dec.
    ** Something like dat **
