    Tomorrow I going oversea, big problem, no one take care of fish tank! The biggest problem, water top up! Put on thinking cap and this is what i come up with :

    Auto Topup -
    * Super Easy
    * Extremely cost effective
    * Don't even use batteries

    Use a bottle, right angle elbow and silicon sealant.

    Method:

    Make a hole near the bottom of bottle and push in the right angle elbow..

    Next, seal it with silicon sealant:

    Then wah-lah! It is done. Fill bottle with water and cap it tight.

    Try it and let me know how it goes!

    Nice and simple temporary top off solution.

    This system works by gravity and assuming that internal air pressure is atmospheric pressure, once the water level falls below that of the outlet, air will rush into the bottle through the outlet and water will come out of the bottle until water covers the outlet.

    Simple and cost-effective!

    Please take note that for this to work, do not substitute anything especially the right-angle Elbow. If you replace the Elbow with smaller rubber tubing, then water will not flow.

    You can however replace the bottle with other Yeo's bottle, like Crysanthenum, Chin Chow, but not Soya Bean because I don't like Soya Bean drinks....

    when the water start flowing out, the bottle may crumple due to uneven pressure inside the bottle and the atmosphere... this may casue the bottle to topple over....

    No it will not! The bottle will not crumble. You got to build one and try it out yourself, but remember cannot use Yeo's Soya Bean bottle because i don't like it.

    Nice project Miki, anything that does not need me to get float valves and such is a plus.

    Why the need for right-angle elbow? Straight doesn't work?

    float valves top-up will be still good for larger volume tanks , this method good for small tanks i guess

    also you can cover the tank maybe can prolong the top up

    This works on gravity, and you'd need a container that is placed higher than the water level of your tank..

    Float valves are necessary for those who are looking to put their water storage at a place below the tank's water level. Float valves/ infra red sensors are necessary for those looking to pump the water from lower ground up into their tank.

    Because the other end of the pipe, opening end, must be below the water surface. Once the water level drop and expose the pipe opening end, the water start flowing and stop once the opening end lower than water surface.

    How do you propose to do that with straight pipe?
