If you want a hardy wild-type betta then try Betta imbellis/mahachai/siamorientalis if you can find these. Betta brownorum requires a bit more experience but once you get the hang of things, they are mostly non-fussy fish. Check the Anabantoids section for threads regarding the Betta coccina group as brownorum is within that grouping.

Wild betta, especially Betta brownorum, requires a completely different setup from the Crystal red shrimps. A soft and acidic water, lots of hiding places and regular live food would make them really happy. That said, they are not your typical showy fishes and tend to spend most of their time hiding away...

The only problem is, Betta brownorum is not very common in the Aquarium trade and only available seasonally in certain LFS, like C328 or Y618. Otherwise, you'll have to look for sellers who breed or collect them from the wild.

Keeping CRS is challenging. Water parameters is very crucial. But after all it's very relaxing when watching them swimming around.
