Usually the ideal temperature is much lower. Check out theor requirements at http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles...p?id=Characins

Prolonged temperatures of 30C~31C may stress the fish. Try to use fans or chillers to cool the tank.

Is your fan AC or DC type? Very easy to determine the amount of electricity used.

The electricity rate from Singapore Power is about $0.16/kWh or less. See your PUB bill.

If your fan is DC and the rating given is say, 0.14A, 12V, then the wattage is 0.14x12 = 1.68W. If turned on for 24 hrs per month, the kWh usage is 0.00168x24x30 = 1.2 kWh. So monthly usage should be 1.2x0.16 = $0.19.

If your fan is AC, then see the wattage. If it is 20W, using the similar calculation above, the monthly usage should be 14.4x0.16=$2.30.

So you see, it isn't very much. If you had used more of the air-con lately, that should be the culprit.
