    Re: Plant ID pls

    Hi there,

I've tried this plant before. It didn't survive in my tank. Think it lasted about 2 months.

    It's Cyperus haspens.

It's a semi-aquatic plant. According to greenpark.sg, they can be grown along the edges of pond or in terrariums by keeping its root system fully submerged.

Here's a list of aquatic and terrarium plants for your future reference:

    Re: Plant ID pls

    hi all,

Just started a thread for my shrimptank http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...n-study-table-)

This pH pen that I have really very weird. I tried again this morning, sequence of events:
    - use pH pen on a small tank filled with tap water + prime, left overnight: ~8.2
    - use pH pen on my shrimp tank (dipped in same distance in): ~3? ~4? ~2?, shock! then common sense tells me the reading is wrong as the shrimps are behaving normally haha
    - again use pH pen on a small tank filled with tap water + prime, left overnight: ~8.2
    - use pH pen on my shrimp tank: ~3? ~4? ~2?
    - use a tissue paper and clean the pH pen, then use the pH pen on my shrimp tank: ~7.5

    zzzz

Anybody has experience of Cyperus haspan growing shoots from underwater? What will happen to these shoots? Mine started growing out yesterday...

    Re: Plant ID pls

I saw this plant when I was at Clementi too, really look great on the drift wood and it is not at expensive. Think it was selling at S$5 for drift wood with 3 Cyperus haspan on it? Trying to visualise how it would look in the tank. Afterall it might not really fit well with the rest of the plants that I had planned for my tank. It looks good stand-alone.

Any seniors out there with personnal experience with this plant, i.e. sensitive to water PH, fertilizer demanding, require alot of light, etc? I did a search on Cyperus haspan on the web and the images seems a little different to the one sootz posted, the ones sold at clementi looks much greener (without the shoots) than the ones in the web. Anyone care to clarify further?

    Re: Plant ID pls

2 weeks now, so far so good.

I think the main thing is I decided to remove all the water lettuce last weekend. They were doing real well with bushy roots and multiplying 1->3. I removed them because the roots were blocking water flow... That was on last Friday.

Yesterday night (Tues), I noticed the shoots from the driftwood plants, and they are like 10cm tall!

I do daily dose of borneowild lush + EssenceK + Ferrum though.

    Re: Plant ID pls

Got the same plant from NSA over the weekend. Just 1 shoot of it, thought of trying it out. Using fishing line, I tied it to my driftwood and guess what I noticed today:

Alamak, wasted. Initially I also do not dare to try, because I read from somewhere, this plant is pretty difficult. But my wife love it a lot, so I thought why not? Afterall, 1 stalk do not cost much. And I am impressed by the result. It is actually growing pretty well now.
