How do I remove the hair algae that is growing out of my spiky moss and US fissidens. It is a cause from over fertilisation plus long photo periods?

    I'm running:

    24 degrees temp
    55w PL 6500K for 8hrs
    CO2 at 2 BBPs

Or should I completely replace the plants with new ones?

I tried manually plucking them off the moss and Fissidens but cant seem to get all.

    Any advice from bros?

use a toothbrush and twirl around the algae, never tested before, but got few recommendations for it back then

Ya man.. I tried those manual plucking methods.. Seems to uproot my spiky moss together at the same time. Now like abit bald. Was thinking should I just remover everything and replanted the moss again.

    hi,

you can only remove longer ones and you'll do it with much care. It's a hassle whens small bit break off and regrow.
remove what you can with gently rubbing , if it ends up tugging the moss then just stop and trim the moss instead. Tug too hard the moss will also come out.

btw how did you "plant" moss, we all mostly just tie it on dw and wait for it to get a grip ..

    If it was me,
I will get some 2 small SAE. what are you feeding and fertilizing your tank with? perhaps it could be overfeeding and over dosage of ferts.
I am balding but i am still young!

I tried some SAEs before.. dont think i over fed my fishes, just enough and suck out what ever was left. Now I just transferred these US Fissidens to my CRS tank. By the way the fissidens are tied to a wood pc. Its tough to add in the SAEs in my CRS tank wouldn't it ? I am not dosing any fertilisers in my CRS tank, and no light through out the day, just switch it on when I feed my shrimps.

Shall I just get new fissidens instead?

if you give your best effort and still keep growing. yes remove and replace the fissiden, if it spreads then really headache.

sae are only good during juvenile stage. older ones seem to take a liking to fish food and chase other fish away.

i also know red nose shrimps pretty good on algae but they didn't clear all my hair algae but half of it before turning my windlov bald....
