hi augi,
you must arrest the problem. Whichever factors that help algae to grow also help plants to grow. If you take away these factors, plants needs will be gone and plants will be hurt. Try to look at it from the plants point of view. If plants are strong and growing, there is no chance for algae to boom..

just remember algae are plants too.
and will you buy an anti-algae product that says it will affect plants?
Does the anti algae product grow plants? Is it a fertilizer for the plants?
If not, don't use it.
That's a simple rule to follow.
Your goal is to grow the plants, so do just that.
When the plants grow well, the algae does not, when the plants don't grow ell, the algae will.
This is true no matter what type of dense plant tank you have.
The focus should always be on the plant health.
With a trim and water change etc, getting the routine and nutrients right will solve most every algae problem you have.
And no, you are not the one exception that needs a little help to just get you over this one algae bloom and then things will be fine.
That is the biggest foolish lie there is and why there is a market for anti algae products.
Focus on CO2, NO3, PO4, K, Traces, GH etc
I've not needed to use an anti algae product EVER.
So after 15+ years............do you think thisd is required for a nice healthy planted tank?
NO!
Do any contest winners and good plant grow growers use these products?
NO!
Anyone worth their salt does not use these products.
It side tracks you away from the real issues, good plant growth.
