With wiffy approval, used my 18 years old PC table for additional tanks. The base support is made of steel, but the table are using compressed plywood(wood chips). Looks to me its able to support a 60l tank on the top. Anyone have used a similar method? Care to share your comment/experience.

That's one of my consideration, but its all wrap with formica(spelling wrong). I have 3 weeks to think about it.

Not the size, its the weight of 60litre of water.

Wildbear....don't mind me saying....why don't you just remove the old com table and get a nice 3ft tank with cabinet?

If you do setup the new tank, its as good as having 3 tanks that needs attention. Looking at your com table...you could easily fit a 90x60x60 there and just focus all your energy at just one tank....

That is what I would do....

David.... I'm new to planted tank, more comfortable with 2ft tank for now. Will be moving to a new place in 2 years, maybe then will do a bigger tank.
Anyhow, will have to upkeep 4 tanks with the new addition

Re: Converting old PC table into aquariums

why not remove the table and get a 2 feet tank stand instead.
Even if you overlay it with formica, with the time and effort plus the cost you are better off with a new 2 feet tank stand.
Anyway, because it is compress wood,it will warp after sometime.

Re: Converting old PC table into aquariums

Hey Wildbear, what I am trying to say is that to set up well. Not needed to get a 3 feet but a tank of your choice but do it well. There are even 2footers with cabinet and stuff like that.

We are all beginners at some point and just trying to help you avoid some mistakes I have made along the way.

Please don't misunderstand me trying to push you into something that you are not comfortable with.

Re: Converting old PC table into aquariums

I have tried it before on a similar scale, the table warped after 2 weeks when tank was fully loaded.
Removed it almost immediately, so i did not get to do a stress/ crash test

As mentioned by the pros above, do up something nice, which means getting a proper aquarium stand and cabinet.

Afterall, it's going to be 2 years, which means many occasions to show off your nice tanks when people visit

No worry, those are good points you are giving. Just that itchy hands, bought a few tanks to fiddle with, practice my aquascaping. Matter of factly, I already have a 2ft with cabinet sitting in the hall. Think I saw your custom-made 4ft tank in one of the thread, and it was beautifully done. So maybe will make 1(poison by you) when I get keys to my new bigger house(still public housing) in 2 years.

Glad we got that out of the way. my tank is not a custom but from Ehiem MP series.

If I wanted a custom it will definitely from Coral Reef. My dream tank is a 180x60x75 ...but unfortunately may not be suitable for an apartment.

    Perhaps soon...in Malaysia...

And if I wanted a 2ft, it will definitely be an ADA full setup tank (more poison for you)

Think I will have to do a full load test on the table, hope it can take the weigh. If not, will have to visit market place for a used stand.
Mixed veggie tank, cannot show off

You are very humble! just some tips and suggestion. Start to explore possible plants for my set-up, trying to collect a list of candidate.
