I feel that these are feeder fishes that is genetically weak. Hold from buying till there is no more deaths in a month before proceeding.

Yesterday was a milestone by itself: no fish went to fish heaven.

Hopefully the tank and the fishes are stabilizing. Feeding them 1x every 2 days now.

And can a fish this small be pregnant?

If you (or anyone else) want some molly fries, let me know. My molly pair just bred. Photos of fries and parents below.

    Talev

You've got a very nice planted tank!

Thks for the kind offer. But I've been advised to stabilise the tank first.

    Hi Klo44w,

That molly looks pregnant to me. You will probably have fries coming your way.
You might want to check the forum and prepare for it. It will be depressing if the fries dies as well.

Thks I am experimenting with a spawning mop my kid and I made via instructions from another forum. We'll see how it goes. The fatty wasn't that fat this morning but could not see any fries. Anyways have started the liquid diet just in case.

    Will keep you folks updated.

    Wish for the best.

Re: Hello and anyone know where to buy a few mollies

    Hi seniors,

I have a bit of a silly question. The filter wool, which is white at first, and now after a few weeks ; it's almost brown in color. Is this just dirt or combo of dirt and bb?

I recall being advised to keep some of the old filter wool together with the new one. So use the dirty one with the new one?

    Sorry still a newbie.

Its mostly dirt and fine debris collected in the filter wool... and by then it usually houses alot of beneficial bacteria too. If the majority of your filter media volume is taken up by the fine filter wool (ie. >50%), then its best to only replace it partially in stages so that the bacteria has time to re-colonize the new filter wool.

But if you already have alot of other bio-media in the filter (ie. 80-90% of the filter is other bio-media), then just replacing the fine filter wool directly is probably okay as it wouldn't affect the overall bacteria colony as much.

    Thks Urban.

Just to clarify, where I am applying the filter wool is at the suction tube of my hof. So it's a sort of mechanical filter to filter out the waste. And to a prevent suicidal fish from getting sucked in.

My little pregnant fishy went up to fishy heaven. I think perhaps the body was unable to take the delivery of the frys.

    Oh well...

Hi everyone. Just joined Aquatic Quotient hoping to learn more about Tropical Fish Keeping and to be with others of similar interest. You can try Jalan Kayu. Nanyang Sea View. I had seen Black Mollies, Gold Mollies and White Mollies there before. Hope I helped.

Hi everyone. Just joined Aquatic Quotient hoping to learn more about Tropical Fish Keeping and to be with others of similar interest. Could either be internal parasite or it is really pregnant. I had a smaller or similar size guppy and platy that gave birth to 10 -15 fries.

Re: Hello and anyone know where to buy a few mollies

It's not that you do not have the touch....it's always best never to mix two batch of fishes.

Either the new batch kaput, old batch kaput ..worse case scenario, both kaputs as in your case.

I once mixed two batch of Heckel Discus and both kaputs....

Re: Hello and anyone know where to buy a few mollies

Wah... if that's the case, I might end up with a house full of tanks, or dead fishes! New things I learn everyday about keeping fishes.
