Just in case...if you are in this forum, I don't mean any insult. I am just really curious what you are thinking of for 45 minutes...
I went to East Aquatic today and had a strange encounter....
I saw this Japanese guy a few times before and today, I can see he was quite excited as he was going to purchase his plants.
He took a stool, placed it right in front of the plants-for-sale tanks And sat there in total silence...
10 minutes passed...he is still there...i walked all over the shop and back....he is still there...
45 minutes later he finally bought his plants...
Can someone enlighten me the purpose of staring in silence at a variety of no more then 15 species plants?
I don't think I can last 5 minutes looking at plants.
The next time I see him if which I know I will, I got to make friends with him...

Hmmm... I believe he has some unique technique of differentiating healthy plants and the not so healthy plants. You will need to pay enough attention to notice them.
For me I can sit in front of my tank for an hour till my wife asked if I will want to sleep with my tank at night where I then proceed into my room... Haha... Think I am going 走火入魔.

YOu answered the question before me. That was exactly what I thought too. When I was at sea view browsing their full range of plants, even after 30 minutes later, I was unable to decide which plant to purchase. My mind was reeling with lots of self-imposed question as to which plants suit my tank, how far it can grow, will the color match, are they easy to keep, do they need strong light...etc? Another reason could be that the japanese probably has not seen other LFS or that was the only shop nearest his home thus he was seen to be there regularly and induced his excitement when he came across new products like plants.

Originally that is what I thought...but it is not because he actually choose very specific bunch of the same kind of plants 4 specific plants which I have a feeling that he has already narrowed down in previous visits....45 mins to decide which pot of plants is healthy?

My god, i feel so alien.....
i can barely look at any of my tanks for 10 minutes, else my hand lands inside the tank.
the only time i stare at tank more then 1 hour..... is looking for hair algae.. LOL....
IMHO, the guy is in virtual mode. It's the next phase of aquascape planning, won't we all have awesome ideas that didn't quite reach the virtual plan?

Alien? You are normal, we are the aliens. Definitely, you know you are going to put your hands into the tank and that could last more than an hour. Naturally, you will want to avoid that, that is why you tried not to stare at your tanks for too long or the unsatisfactory syndrome will kick in and you will end up spending more than an hour in front of your tank.

Same as Felix, if I stare at my tank for that long, I bound to have funny ideas of doing something to it or fine tune it hahah. I started to spend less time looking at my tanks these days, kept getting reminded by my wife to spend more time with the dogs...
Just bought Aquatic Journal thick cover book....I am going to try sleeping with the book on top of my head and see if it sinks in.....hahahaha!!!!!!!!!! If that don't work, I'll burn the book and drink the ashes.....
