Help needed regarding fries (Free Swimming)

Dear All,

I know this may come across as too "last minute", but I really do need some advises.

My angel fish fries have just went free swimming today.

What should I feed them with? Baby brine shrimp? egg yolks?

If it is baby brine shrimp, where can I get them? I am living in the east but for the precious fries I don't mind driving across the island to get the supplies.

How often should I feed them? How do I care for them. I have about close to 200 fries.

All comments are greatly appreciated be it positive or negative.

Yes, baby brine shrimp or daphnia aka boon can be used to feed them. Hong Yang at CCK block 306 should have boon, baby brine shrimp can be obtained from polyart at clementi block 328. You can feed about 2-3 times a day.

@lucasjiang, Thank you so much. Just a quick question, can either boon or baby brine shrimp survive in a separate tank for a number of days?

Boon can survive for about 2 to 3 days, but the death rates are very high each day. So it is good to siphon off the dead boon everyday. If you have greenwater they will survive far longer.

Baby brine shrimp also survives about 2-3 days but their nutrition content is lower after the first 24 hours after hatching.

For both, just keep them in the original water and aerate it gently.

AMK Chai discus sell frozen Baby brine shrimp. Very convenient no need to hatch. I using for my discus fries. Most important do not over feed be careful of water quality

You can use egg yolk but not too much. BBS or live daphnia will be your best options. Angelfish fry are not picky, they usually eat whatever floats by. You can try Hikari First Bites too.

Hi guys,

An update on my angelfish babies.

It has been 10 days since they had began to free swim and I am proud to say out of 200+ fries, only less than 10 died.

They are fed boon daily. Dead boons are being siphoned out daily before feeding sessions.

How long should I continue to feed them with boon? When can they be fed on frozen blood worms?

Why not try live tubifex worms? My experience with them is that the fries grow up very fast when fed tubifex worms.

It depends on how big the fry are, haven't kept angelfish fry before cant comment on that. Otherwise you can also try frozen daphnia or frozen brine shrimp (these are slightly smaller than frozen bloodworm in my experience).

Like what Xanavi said, you can also try tubifex worms but take note that tubifex has a significant chance of introducing parasites, diseases etc to your fry. You can chop the tubifex before feeding to your fry, they will still continue wriggling for a short while.
