    augi_ow,

I hate to say it but you have to remove it manually. Blackout works better if you don't mind not seeing your tank for a few days. Remember to wash your filter too.

    blackout

won't blackout affect other plants too.. i'm in the process of growing my moss wall.... and my mini riccia....... how acout reducing the light amount just to 15W instead of the original 60W and add a bit more fertiliser... hoping the plants will absorb the nutrients and light better

Reducing the light will not do...you need to kill off the BGA with a complete blackout as mentioned by Geoffrey. The rest of the plants will be fine for a period of 3-5 days..no worries here. Just make sure you take care of the plant nutrients and CO2 after that. By the way, how big of a tank are we talking about here? Keep up on the NO3...don't let it bottom out again..

3 days does it just fine.
Plants are shipped for many days without light, they can last.

Do water change(50%) remove all you can, remove any detritus/plant leaves/clean filter etc.
    Add nutrients back.

Turn off CO2 and increase current and place 2-3 black trash bag layers over it for 3 days.

Turn on CO2, add nutrients again, keep up on dosing from there.

    Re: thanks guys

2.5 ft is a good size.... take care of it well and it should look good. I sometimes get BGA on my 2 ft and just blackout the whole setup for a few days with no problem at all.

    Re: BGA

Make sure your bag isn't light-permeable. I use an old blanket. UVC - does it help against BGA?? Anyone???

Anyway, see you in 3 days.....

augi_ow, get more surface movement and aeration going in the tank during the blackout for the critters. Do the rest as what Tom mention..thats all.

Hmm....I wonder where can I get trash bag or blanket big enough to cover my 4x2x2, if I should get an attack of BGA....

Will probably need to resort to several layers thick of patch-up newspaper then.....

Plants will take in NO3 at night and during a blackout, but it's mainly to fatten them up on N before resuming your routine.
The KNO3 dosing was too low or did not exist prior to the outbreak and/or the filter needed a good cleaning etc.

Cut the trash bags and tape together to fit larger tanks.
Turn off CO2, increase circulation etc
