Saw some greeny spots growing on the rocks. at first I thought it could be bits coming off my miramo balls, yet it also looks like some kind of algae. Any suggestions?

Yup, that's the green algae that people prefer to grow as hardscape accent (but usually end up its the black version that grow)... so in a sense you are lucky.

If you decide to let it grow, just pull or trim off any excess if it overgrows, basically maintain it like your other plants.

If you really want to get rid of it, just remove the rocks and soak them in Excel or H202 bath for a while, then scrub them off.

In my humble opinion, its because algae is a part of nature; in real jungles, almost all trees has sorts of algae on them..in other words algae is normal and everywhere... even our Longkang also have algae... haha

to create natural feel in aquarium, some of these green bba /Cladophora algae on rocks/driftwood can help to imitate whats is happening in the nature....

well, its just my humble opinion though... some people may prefer a cleaner look in their tank...

Check out my Blog on planted tank, good for newbies ( i am lazy to retype all the info i know, so please click and read below link... i hope you don't fall asleep while reading)

You can do a selective killing (if they invade your plants) or keeping (if they grow on rocks and wood). I don't mind giving you a clean rock in exchange for that algae rock

Woah im not sure if I have the same thing at home, if I do then I probably have quite a lot. Mine is something like that except that it is far longer and it grows on the tank walls. Not really rounded like in the photo. Otherwise it's almost exactly the same. Is it the same thing?

Here is a picture of it: Pic They start as small little balls but grow into a huge carpet. There is a rather big ball of it on the right.

This is quite common in my tank and very easy to rid without dosing EXCEL. Simply pull them away from the plant, just like how you pluck cotton candy. I also tried to roll them into a ball when it gets too thick.

Haha I will just be leaving them there since they look like grass and my tank is not an aquascaped tank. I guess they will also help to absorb ammonia and nitrates from my fish.
