laundry bleach is different. The composition contains many chemical which is intended for laundry purpose. The photo which you have shown is Sodium Hypochlorite.

I think it is better to stick with hydrogen peroxide sold in pharmacy.
Even so, care has to be given in using the method.

If you want to use chemical i suggest use seachem excel.
Proven and fish safe.
Yeah, better to use Excel... or H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide, which is cheaper if you plan to use larger quantities), both will become harmless after a short while. Excel only lasts for 24 hours and H2O2 converts into water/oxygen.
Bleach can use to clean stuff but after that have to really de-chlorinate alot, but even then some of the bleach could still be soaked into the wood and later might release it back into the aquarium.
Infected moss with algae? Take out and put in a cleat plastic bag and dump it to a corner. Recheck after 1-2month and see if you can reuse. Usually algae will be gone and you can use the moss again, but might not be in the beautiful pattern. Try it and report back if possible. Ya, Do not keep it in no light environment.
Some has suggest pack it in fridge and it help also.

For Excel, due to its oxygen reducing properties, i think its best to start with very low dosage, then see the response of the fishes and shrimps, then increase slowly over a few days until full dose... especially if the tank's stocking level is high and if the tank has Co2 injection.
I seriously feel that its not excel which killed your livestock. I am dosing 1 to 2ml of excel everyday to my less than 20L 36cmx22x26 nano tank and all my sakura shrimps are still alive and kicking
Yup, i dont think it is excel that kill the fishes.
You have to bare in mind that the instruction on the label are base on basic calculation.
you could have a small tank with a lot of fishes or big tank with too little plants which will not goes well if you follow the dosage.
Deaths usually occurs during midnite hours.I have done twice 40% water changes and increased the aeration by turning my airpump to max. I have also angled my rainbar to 45' to create more splashes. That seems to arrest the deaths. My pH is about 6.4. Ammonia and nitrite 0ppm.Nitrate about 30ppm. I did dose 5ml flourish but I don't think its flourish either.
Could it be my tank is underplanted?
Dont mean to dig up an old thread. I tried concentrated spot excel on my narrow leaf java ferns out of tank.... They basically all melted... both the algae and the ferns...LOL...
Now all I have are rhizomes and brown leaves. Looks like I cannot do concentrated on any plants or organic matter. My moss also turned totally brown. Looking for them to recover now.

I agree... spot treating a concentrated dose of excel on plants with algae will often also kill the plants too, so its really a last resort type of thing.
Nowadays, i only do spot treatment with excel on algae that is on bare hardscape like rocks or wood, not on plants.
