Recently bought a bottle of phosphate to supplement nutrient for my aquatic plants. I have been dosing close to a month long. Noticed my plants are growing well but there are blue-green algae on the leaves of my plants. Read somewhere that moss ball will remove phosphate, anyone can advise on this? How do I remove this algae ??

    assuming its BGA...
blue green algae is not an algae per se, its a kind of bacteria.
To get rid of it, i just install a UV filter.

But i think its vital to find out whats feed the bacteria. overfeeding?

When i get BGA, its either i am overfeeding or its a new tank with circulation problems.
I am balding but i am still young!

    UV light does kill cyanobacteria...

the reason why antibiotics have better efficacy then UV light in the case of planted tanks is because antibiotics is added directly to the water column and is in direct contact with the BGA. This is more effective, compared to a UV light running in series outside the tank, as the UV light can only kill BGA in the water that is passing through the filter.

If i were to choose only 1 out of the 2, i would go with UV light. antibiotics are added into the water column and affects majority of the life in a living tank. which means all the fish, shrimp, some plants and higher lifeforms.

but then again, i would still find out why i have GBA, before i decide what to do.

If i do not understand the root cause, all i am doing is to delay it from coming back.

David, maybe can spare Magpie some antibiotic when you finish nuking. hahahaha

Haha, I think I will stop dosing phosphate and do weekly water change and see whether will these BGA be gone.

Eric...I tried every thing already. Once BGA start, not easy to get rid.
