Typical treatment is to increase the temperature of the tank to around 31-32 degrees celsius, and add aquarium salt and increase aeration.

Other methods require the use of a dosage of methylene blue with increased aeration. Once the ich is gone you must do a light vacuum of the top layer of your substrate to remove any cysts and/or dead parasites.

Sorry to ride on your thread.
what if it is a planted tank and only tetra affected?

I have other fishes like starlight and cory but no sign they are affected as of now.

Corydoras and plecos like the Starlight will not show signs of white spot until much later. Tetras that are improperly acclimated to the tank may get stressed out and fall victim to this parasite. I assume that the tetras are new to the tank however.

Young starlight bristlenoses are quite strong. They usually do not pick up white spot unless water conditions are really bad. You have to observe the fish over the following weeks and decide on the medication or method you will use.

Over the counter ich medications should help clear the problem. Follow the instructions. Also, try to do small but frequent water changes after the medication dosage. This would help remove some of the dormant ich eggs or free-swimming larvae that are not dead yet. Reduce feeding also during this time. Usually takes about 2-3 weeks to be fully cleared of ich.

    Re: Ich/ick on my rams

I always up my heater whenever i see white spots on my guppies or angels. Aeration is always there so i assume i do not need to add any further. But somehow it takes quite a while and maybe some lives away before it is totally gone. Had once where almost all my guppies died in the tank. They say it was due to the weather where it gets cold nowadays.
