I will be setting a new tank and I need some advise regarding fertilization.

I will be choosing between going for either method and hence need a bit of advices between this two.

    1) Lushgro Aqua and micro
Will this two fertilizer be enough? Do I need other supplements ?

    2) EI Dosing
    K2so4 to replace KNO3 for K
    KH2PO4 for P

What other dry fert do I need ? I have been reading and people are using Csm+b not sure where I can get this.
If going for EI, what would be a better option for iron and other trace elements .

    Thanks for your help.

    If you planning for EI,

    I suggest:
    CaNO3 for the N
    K2so4 for K
    KH2PO4 for P
Seachem trace, you can replace with other brand
Seachem Fe, you can replace with other brand
You will need calculator to calculate the ppm, there are many on the net or you can visit my blog

    CSM+b is basically micro

Just to ask if there will be any effect by adding calcium into the tank ? CaNO3

Re: Fertilization help needed for new tank

10 gram of CaNO3 added into 50 gallon of water adding 27 ppm of N and 9 ppm of Ca.
weekly recommended dosage for Ca is 10-30 ppm
weekly recommended dosage for N is 10-30 ppm
Thus it is still within recommended dosage. Sensitive creature light CRS might be effected though

Just remember to do large weekly water changes so that it will not accumulate to toxic level.

Re: Fertilization help needed for new tank

Oh okay, seems like a small amount of Ca . I was still afraid of Ca raising the pH level. Other than CaNO3 is there other alternatives to add N ?

Lushgro macro also contain reasonable N and NO3, alternatively.

never try this combination, though i don't see any reason to say no.

Again this is depend on how fast you want to grow your tank, if you're in high quick techy tank territory, Full dosage EI method might suit you well. If not, you could customise with your own dosage, that more suit to your tank need.

At the moment I'm trying to slow down my tank, by doing 50% EI. I've got less prunes, less algae, better control and definitely slow growth & i won't see miracolous bubbles on my carpet plants anymore. Definitely reduce the lights as the important part of all, co2 i leave it as it is.

I never try lushgro macro and micro, so can't comment . If you have info on the lushgro composition percentage, that should you formulate the dosage. Otherwise, try and error

As per LushGro Aqua and Micro. These are the dosage:

    Lushgro-Micros:
Recommended dilution: This formulation very highly concentrated.
For general garden use and foliar spray, add 1-2 drops of this
solution per TEN litres of water. NEVER ADD MORE THAN FIVE
DROPS / TEN LITRES AT A TIME. For aquariums add ONE drop per
100 litres of water. It is advisable to add ONE drop of this
LUSHGro-MICROS Liquid formulation every time you change the water.
    Lushgro-Aqua:
LUSHGro-AQUA for Aquatic Plants is a concentrated formulation.
Depending on the number of plants in the aquarium or aquatic landscape,
add 1-5 drops of this solution PER TEN LITRES to the tank 1-2 times
a month or whenever you change the water. NEVER ADD MORE THAN
FIVE DROPS At A TIME. If your aquarium is big, then add 10 ml or
ONE CAP FULL PER 100 LITRES of water in the tank.

For Micro, i dose 0.6 drop per week for a 60 litre tank ?
    For macro, I dose 5 drops x 6 = 30 drops , 1 -2 times per month ?

    Confused.

Re: Fertilization help needed for new tank

BTW, found a calculator for Lushgro Aqua and Micro. But i am simply confused on how to use it.

    www.ntu.edu.sg/home/kfloh/dmdd.xls

Can anyone guide me on how much to dose for a 60 litre tank ?

I can key in the amount I want to dose. but the amount to dose as per the excel is it a daily amount or the amount for the week ? I need to be 100% sure.

People who had used Lushgro please lend a hand.

    Thanks much =)

I guess this sentence is the most ambiguous, "Depending on the number of plants in the aquarium or aquatic landscape"

I'm dosing 2ml LushGro Aqua and 1.5ml Seachem phosphorus on Monday, Wednesday. LushGro micro 1 drop on Tuesday. Alternate water change of 30% and 50% weekly.

Re: Fertilization help needed for new tank

+- depends on what plants you have. Gauge yourself, increase the dosage by 0.5ml if not enough. Monitor at least a week or two before you increase/decrease dosage.

1.5ml of Phosphorus for a 20G tank? Are you following Seachem dosage instruction or EI? Because this calculator based on 15G (minus off the substrate, rocks, driftwood), it's 27ml per dosage, unless I'm reading it wrong...

Re: Fertilization help needed for new tank

Nope. Not following either, following my trial and error. And you are following? 27ml per dosage?! Seachem recommend 2.5ml per 80l, once or twice weekly.
