Anyone who have similar experience? I will try to post a pic tonight. I saw at least a couple of shrimplets this morning. Weird stuff going on?

Re: sakura shrimps producing black offspring

Its possible... i've spotted my RCS produce dark/black colored shrimplets too, i guess its one of the regressive genes that pop up randomly in their shrimplets.

Quite rare though, in my shrimp tank of around 90-100 RCS, i've only spotted 3-4 at any one time, but all very small juvenile ones, haven't seen a full grown black one so far, could be either they gradually change back to red color over time or just died off before reaching adult size.

Chocolate/Black Sakura came from Sakura/RCS. Like a colour morph. I have not had this experience before but I have chocolate offspring came out red

That's not considered black or chocolate sakura. True black or chocolate sakura are like your sakura, but an opaque black. You can find them easily at Seaview located at seletar. Quite ex though, about $5 for one if I'm not wrong. What you have is actually just a normal cherry, though slightly darker compared to normal. I have plenty of them in my tank, some of them dark like yours.

Black Sakura/Chocolate is not like that. I would say that is a wild dull colour which appears once in a while

No i am not showing off.

    Chocolates/Black sakura.

Some when shone with strong lights will reveal double colour.

And some will come out as rili.

Darker color shrimps would be able to blend into their environments better and have higher survival rate in the wild compared to bright red shrimps, so i guess nature's way of "resetting" the offspring color through recessive genes helps to ensure the survival of the species.

So this "chocolate" sakura is just an adaptation or is it selective breeding and does it breed true?
