    Hi,

I have being curious on why my tank PH had been >7.6 consistently.

Initially, i thought it had to do with the algae growth in my filter pipe, so i cleaned it out 2 weeks ago.

Today, when I tested it again, I was surprise that it was still between 7.4-7.8
So, i did a small experiment:

    Fresh out of tap: 6.8
Added Seachem Prime + stand for 0.5 hr: 7.6
Added Seachem Prime + stand overnight: 7.6

Do any of you experience the same problem?
The pail i use to hold the water has never been used for anything other than storing fresh water for my tank,

Tap water is under pressure in pipes and generally has higher Co2 levels when fresh out of the tap, so the pH is slightly lower... when its allowed to stand for a while the Co2 will gradually offgas and the pH will rise back to its normal level.

Thats one of the reasons why some people experience more pearling in their tanks after a water change with freshly treated tap water, its like the tank getting a quick boost in Co2.
