i notice some LFS selling those "moss-balls" (some called it alage-balls)..
actually how these come abt?
Some claim that if u put it into yr tank...it can help to absorb away the harmful nitrate?? is it true?
i'm juz keen to find out more abt these thing...
so anyone care to share their knowledge abt it?

Those algae ball are known as marimo ball....
They absorb the nitrates to prevent algae growth...
I personally don't think they absorb nutrients more than other fast growers. Have you considered using Ceratophyllum demersum? or even floating plants
Dunno about their rate of nitrate absorption. But I do know that u need to turn this algae balls frequently so that they wun rot at the bottom.

Btw, heard that there are some from Japan that was found in their local streams were believed to be existed for hundred over years old ... and they were indentified by the size ... Also heard that they were kinda protected ...

they're just another form of algae except that it is shaped in a ball shape. my shrimps don't really fancy it except for yamato who eats practically anything. haha
if u want plants that will absorb nitrate fast, you can try Egeria densa
