Hi all I'm setting up a nano tank. No co2 but plan to dose excel..
Plants I'm considering are glosso, hair grass or tennellus.. but would like to know which one is better and will carpet and survive well by dosing excel. Also how much excel to dose as my tank measure at 25 by 25 by 20 cm...

    Thanks all for the help..

Glosso would be a good choice, it can grow well in non-Co2 injected tanks and should grow abit faster with Excel dosing, but do make sure the light intensity is also sufficient to support the growth too.

Hairgrass can also be used, but it tends to be a very slow grower in a non-Co2 injected tank. Tennelus would also grow slow in that environment too, and it usually needs a fair amount of light to grow.

For your 10+ liter tank volume, the daily Excel dosage would be quite small, like only 0.25ml if based on their 5ml per 200 liter recommendation... have to use dropper to measure that tiny amount, though i guess you could dose 0.5ml daily and still be okay. Your bottle of Excel will last for a very long time.

Your lightset uses 5 x 5W LEDs? Wow... 25W, that'll be really strong for such a small tank.

    Specification of the led light

The intensity/penetration of the led light.

is it bright enough for glosso or those high lighting demand plant...

You can also consider marsilea hirsuta with those specs.

For LEDs i wont consider the wattage to be the true parameter. Glosso will grow straight up like a stem plant with low lights.

Hmmm... 0.5W LEDs would definitely have more than sufficient depth penetration for your tank, but the overall total power of 2.5 watts seems rather low.

Not sure if it is enough to grow those plants though, i guess you'll just have to test and see.

I grew glosso in a tank of similar volume before but it was with the older version of the Up Aqua Z-Series Z-30 that runs at 10+ watts (it uses a dense array of many 0.06W LEDs packed together, instead of a few 0.5W ones).

Hmmm seems like its gonna be a trial and error.. if it fail than I suppose I'm gonna use hair grass or tennellus as my apisto tank have tennellus that is growing well without any dosing ...
