Anyone tried to use those tablets for dosing their planted tanks?
I am referring to those pills given to folks after their blood donation.

Is inserting them in the substrate a better idea?

HA! I got a bottle of IRON Sup in my canbinet, Each tab is 650mg. was thinking of using it for my base gravel... Wonder if those are slow release ones.... But I forgot the price liao! is it more worthwhile then those commercially available PRO-aquarium product...

How about those Cold storage plant section, Horticulture IRON TAB... worry here are just the rate of release as they are mainly for land plants...

After the blood donation, I was given some of this iron tablets. I crushed 1/4 tablet and dropped it into my pure shrimp tank with java fern. So far, no "side effect" was detected and none of my shrimp and plant dead. In fact, my java fern is sprouting new baby leaves and the tablet does not affect my cherry shrimp's reproductivity.

I have tried both calcium carbonate and potassium chloride tabs in my tank and these I just dropped into the tank. I did the same with my E15 Fe tabs from Dennerle but was told by Simon that inserting into the substrate has better effect plus Plantbrain's previous posting on Fe and sub, I would think inserting into the sub will do more good.

They sell Iron Gluconate tablets for people, the same stuff SeaChem adds to their Iron supplements.
