    I caught this rosbara with a couple of Pygmy halfbeaks at a reservoir. Does anyone know what species of rosbara this is?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1394541053.998114.jpg

    Does not look like a rasbora, but rather a tetra, probably Hemigrammus rodwayi. If you found this species in the reservoir that means it's either a released fish or escapee that has become established. Did you catch any more of this fish? I hope you returned the halfbeaks to their habitat, because native fishes are struggling to survive with the introduced species.

    Certain reservoir, Yes. But is strictly using Rod+Reel with artificial lures.

    Then the hook must be super small in order to catch that small fish

    I was at the fishing ground but was using a hand net.

    @stormhawk
    There were plenty of this fish around the were schooling among the algae, I caught about 20 pieces. It does look like hemigrammus rodwayi, wonder how it ended up here and if it eats plants. I feel rather guilty now as I actually kept the halfbeaks only a few though.

    Oh dear, tetras being established in our reservoirs too? I'm worried, especially if these reservoirs are part of the Central Catchment Area; these tetras might be able to invade the small forest streams that are the homes of our native rasboras and barbs.

    I caught them in Kranji reservoir, how they got there is still a mystery to me. When I went a year ago I did not see them.

    Is it at fishing ground A. A drain discharge?

    Re: Unknown rosbara

    They were probably intentional releases, either into the storm drains or "longkangs" that flow into the Kranji River itself, that have managed to establish themselves in the river.

    Re: Unknown rosbara

    Given the proximity of the fish farms in the Kranji, Lim Chu Kang and Sungei Tengah areas, I won't be surprised if there are escapees that end up surviving in the drains and make it to the reservoir.
