I started with a thin wire mesh of riccia in my shrimp tank about 1.5 months ago and now I have a mesh that's about 1 inch thick... I have seen those really small shrimplets moving inside the 1 inch thick riccia, need some advise on what would be a more safe and efficient method to trimming riccia while avoiding trimming the crs shrimplets before the bottom portion dies out?

I don't know why no one has replied but this is what I do.
    1) I re tie my ricci cause It just grows too fast.
    2) I bring my mesh up to surface level and turn it upside down and shake & dunk the mesh repeatedly until I'm sure that the shrimps are not clinging on.
Then I put the mesh into a bare tank filled with water and start trimming. Once I'm done I'll put the mesh back into the original tank.. btw ricca can easily fall apart when it is very thick and heavy so be careful.

Haha I also don't know how come this thread is not answered....

I used my scissors to disturb the trimming location to scare the shrimplets away...then trim... if can remove the mesh or hardscape as what markus mention will be best...

Btw riccia is a disaster plant.. will grow everywhere....

Check out my Blog on planted tank, good for newbies ( i am lazy to retype all the info i know, so please click and read below link... i hope you don't fall asleep while reading)

hahaha... when the people who usually able to give advice are too busy to even come inside forum, think ingen can understand also..
don't be so hard on ourself, it's a hobby not full time job

similar with moss, most of the time just shake it in tank water (use a bowl or cup, not inside the tank).
Then just trim or if really can, retie... i support retie actually... thou 7/10 times... i trim as i am a lazy man kekeke
