Wow. Someday I must emulate this kind of low-tech system. How long has the tank been set up? Did you try no water change at all?[/quote:e9813080]

Kf, thanks for providing the link. I've some trouble trying to attach a pic here.

The tank is about 8 months old. actually, I've not changed water initially for 2 months and everything seem ok. Recently, I've adopted water change fortnightly when I change water for the other tank. Sometimes when I forget or when I'm lazy, I just do water top up.

this is what amazes me too ... short of a few green spot algae (can count using my fingers), there are no other algae in my tank ... nowadays even the spot algae does not come visit ... and best thing is that the moss is growing!!!!! :P :P :P

With lower lighting, no fertilisation and no CO2, everything grows slowly. So the algae won't appear "overnight" like what we can encounter in hi-tech tanks.

The algae still can appear for low-tech tanks, so we still need to find a balance of light intensity and bioload.

Agree with Juggler. I have 4 low maint tanks and I never had algae problem. Once in a while I have a few spots of spot algae on the glass and that is all !

Alan: Nice to see the evolution of a bare-looking tank to one with lush growth of Java Moss. How long did it take? BTW - those roots are all from Duckweed? Cool.

these are my two low tech set up in the office taken during Day 1 of set up.

They are growing and stablize already. I've also added black backing since.

Some updates to the tank after 3 weeks. Water is stable at a cool 24 degrees celsius.
No water change done so far. Parameters are stable.

The Taiwan Moss seems to be growing real well. I am just praying for the CRS to do their stuff

What filtration are you using? It seem to me like an undergravel filter power by an air pump.
