Both refer to tanks made from low-iron high-clarity glass... the different names are created by sellers to differentiate their products.

That being said, there are visible differences in quality of the glass, corner beveling and silicone workmanship between different brands of tanks (and even between different production batches) so you have to compare to see which are worth buying.

Thanks Urban Aquaria. I was thinking the price difference is about SGD80, which is quite significant. Don t know because opticlear uses a grade between crystal and normal glass. Now I know, guess I need to go compare the items in person.

Re: Difference between Crystal Tank and Opticlear Tank?

Opticlear, Optiwhire, crystal glass, etc are just a trade name referring to glass with low iron content produce by different glass manufacturer. However, they are not made equal. Different company have their own proprietary process. Some are tougher than the other and some are more scratch resistance than the other. This is just the tip of the iceberg, I haven't even touch about the tank workmanship, silicon material, quality control. Choosing tank can be very complicated, the less you know the better

My best advice is go for the known brand, it can't go wrong because they have reputation to keep.

@ Shadow. Other than ADA, what other brands would you recommend?

Hi there, from what I saw, Gush and ANS looks good. The latter is cheaper. Think you also need to compare between the batches.

Beside ADA, I will take local manufacturer (CR, N30) instead of China tank. China made tank maybe OK for small tank but not for big tank. I had bad experiment with 3ft China made tank, the silicon glue was failing before even a year. You do not want that to happen especially if you aim for competition.
