Hi All,

I have been interested in rearing of fishes and have been doing that since I'm young but stopped for a very long time. Started with guppies at about 7-8 years old and started rearing KOI in fibreglass tub (blue kind) at home and subsequently giving up when going for studies overseas. Was not very successful previously as have not known about tank cycling, etc.

Re-started the hobby last year Oct when buying the tank as a present for my younger boy. Now it has become my present and upgraded from a nano tank (Rainbow 250) to a ANS tank (60x30x36).

Still learning as I'm going along and appreciate all the help and advise from all the experienced gurus here!

Hi jasonwoo! One of the problem I've noticed with the rainbow R250 is that the filtration of the water usually by-passed the 2nd chamber as usually the water will be sucked in from the top and bottom vents in the 1st chamber and usually see that the water in the 2nd chamber is usually stagnant.


Not sure if it's the same for R300

Yes, it is also the same. I covered up the bottom vent with soil and stone. The tank water is quite clear.
I am also worried about 2nd and 3rd chamber got mosquitoes.

Oh I guess it does not help even when you have covered the bottom vent. You're right for the 3rd chamber as well as the water is stagnant as well in that area. I have managed to caught 3 baby fry across chamber 1 and 3 previously.

Be careful of the mosquitoes since we have been having infestation with dengue in the early part of the year.

Do note on the internal filter as well as I was surprise by the water temperature when I changed the water and realize that it was warm which I'm suspecting on the internal filter! Luckily the fishes survived....
