Help please? Anyone?
Looks like some form of fissidens or maybe mini christmas moss? I could be wrong though, can't really see clearly.
Maybe you can take a clearer and more close-up photo of the moss for better ID?
Thanks urban! Here are the picsImageUploadedByTapatalk1401367123.085401.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1401367149.441459.jpg

They look more like fissidens to me now... seems like they were recently removed from mesh or rocks? Hence the dead brown bottom layers? Might be a good idea to separate those and just retain the healthy top layers.
They look like terrestrial moss to me though... Will post a pic of it to compare

I took these from a field, as I thought they looked like fissidens, as they had really small leaves. I'm not really sure whether the brown parts are dirt or dead though

My guess is java or singapore moss in terrestrial form. They can be found commonly near to drain, under shade of trees where the soil are abit damn.
When you have successfully transit them to submerge form, you will be able to tell what type of moss.
Most probably, only about 20% of the moss will make it to submerge form.
I would not risk doing this as the soil and rotting moss will tint the tank.
If you are setting up a semi terrestrial tank, that will be good as you have a free source for mosses.
Happy planting.

Thanks james! May I know how long it takes for them to convert from emersed to submerged? I have them in my tank for roughly 5 days now, but most still remain dark green.

Timeline could be between few weeks to 1 month plus depending on your tank condition. Transition can only be considered successful till you see light green leaves/fronds growing out from the emerged moss form. Once the amount of these leaves/fronds are long enough, you can trim and move them to a mesh or driftwood for further propagation. You may consider throwing away the emerged form moss as i believe the some of the moss had already started to rot and soil had already broke down.
Who knows, you may just get lucky and acquire a a new unknown moss from the wild. Happy planting.
