Pond bladder snails can help consume algae in a tank, but they can also reproduce easily and explode in population too, so you'll have to control the amount of food available in the tank. Most aquarium keepers consider them as pests and try to remove them though.

A good alternative is nerite snails, they don't breed in freshwater (their eggs need brackish water to hatch), so you wouldn't encounter a snail population bloom. In addition, nerite snails are also able to eat the hard green spot algae that grows on tank glass too (which are tough to remove).

Assassin snails are carnivorous and go for a meaty diet, they eat very little algae matter (if any at all)... so not much help with algae control.

They do hunt and eat ther snails and clear up any dead fishes or shrimps very quickly though, so can be considered for snail control and as a general scavenger.
