CPO can be kept with filter feeding shrimps, unfortunately dont think they can be kept with freshwater crabs as both are quite territorial and occupy similar areas in the tank ie the base of the tank. There are no fully aquatic freshwater crabs in Singapore now, otherwise you could try thai micro crabs or panther crabs.

I've read about panther crabs, have they ever been available locally before?

yes i see panther crabs before in tropical AQ in pasir ris not long ago.
not cheap though about $12 to $15 each. they seems fully aquatic and are quite big about 3inches.
they come and go. never see them in these few weeks.

    hi lucas,

you seem to be a expert in FW crabs. i read many of your posts about FW crabs.
can you help provide me a list of FW crabs that can be found in SG? please exclude those brackish crabs like fildder crabs.
nice to hear CPO can be keep with my fav filter shrimps.
can CPO and Filter shrimps be keep in a community tank with small fishes?
what type of fishes will you recomened for such a setup? is a 2FT tank big and good enuff?

last thing how about pather crabs are they predators which can kill fish and filter shrimps?

    thanks

Haha im no expert lah. Anyway for freshwater crabs, it has been rather hard to find them the past few years. Here's the list anyway, hope i dont miss any out. The only crabs in constant supply are the vampires and red claws

    Fully aquatic:

    1. Thai micro crab, limnopilos naiyanetri (max size 3cm,eggs hatch as zoea, not bred in captivity)

    2. Heterothelphusa fatum (max size about 8cm, eggs hatch as small crabs, bred in captivity)

    3. Panther crab, parathelphusa pantherina (refer to 2., as it is from Sulawesi lakes, would appreciate a higher pH)

    4. Syntripsa flavichela (refer to 3.)

    Semi aquatic:

    1. Vampire crab (many varieties are available, the yellow back type (geosesarma bicolour) as well as the cream back type and the red back type and the totally orange type, max size about 4-5cm, eggs hatch as small crabs, easily bred in captivity)

    2. Mandarin crab, geosesarma krathing/geosesarma notophorum (max size 4-5cm, females carry baby crabs on the back, easily bred in captivity)

    3. Red apple crab, metasesarma aubryi (max size about 6-7cm, freshwater but eggs hatch as zoea which require seawater, not bred in captivity)

    4. Batik crab, metasesarma obesum (max size 5-6cm, rumoured to require seawater but i kept mine in freshwater, for breeding refer to no. 3)

    5. Geothelphusa albogilva (max size 10cm, rather territorial, eggs hatch as baby crabs)

    6. Sundathelphusa sp. (refer to 5.)

    7. Red claw crab, pseudosesarma sp. (max size 6-7cm, best kept in brackish water but can survive in freshwater, eggs hatch as zoea in seawater)

    Re: fully aquatic freshwater crabs

I suppose CPOs should not be kept with fish as it might attack them at night. Unless you put top dwelling fish in which the risk of such an occurence is lower, but not eliminated. A 2 feet tank would be big enough.

As for panther crabs, they are definitely predators, i wouldnt trust them with any tankmate.

IMO, no... If it was that popular, it would have been available in most lfs throughout Singapore.

    Re: fully aquatic freshwater crabs

I would say only the vampire crabs are popular, as for the rest no. It's quite hard to get a variety of crabs in Singapore's LFS.
