You mean ghost shrimps? I find them pretty useful, but would quarantine them before adding them into my tanks.

Another good alternative that is not too costly would be those Malayan shrimps sold at seaview. 12 bucks or something for 100, and they come in many different colors in the bag. They breed like rabbits too!

thank you reply,
Yes ghost shrimp, but heard they grow up quite huge. seem in LFS before about the length of our index finger. bigger than bamboo shrimp. and they have very long pincers.
Does Malayan Shrimp need sanity water for the fries?
I find that those feeder shrimps with pincers would be considered more as scavengers (when i had them, they preferred going for leftover fish food, not so much for algae), they would be more suitable as general clean-up crew rather than as dedicated algae eaters.
Malayan shrimps are freshwater species, they do not need brackish water to breed, the larvae can develop and grow in freshwater conditions.
Its the amano/yamato shrimps and red nose shrimps that need brackish water to breed.
Malayan shrimps are a good choice. Have some little ones hiding amongst the nook-and-crannies in the tank.

In my opinion, I feel that ghost shrimps don't really eat algae? They seem to prefer eating left over food and carcasses. I used frogbits, ramshorn snails and bristle nose plecos to control algae. Works like a charm and the glass is completely clear of algae.
