Re: Dragon Forest II (Arowana Planted) Setup

Had a long bout of issues with plant growth, and a stubborn algae. I think I have figured out most of the problems and getting the tank back into shape. Will post updates once I have it stable again and good enough for public viewing.

That's super great, anticipating your update. I am also dealing with a lot of algae issues and water clarity (probably due to water circulation and mechanical filtration) with mine.

How did you deal with the algae? Feifeng?

Re: Dragon Forest II (Arowana Planted) Setup

The algae I get the most trouble with is Green Dust Algae. At least I think that's what it is. Usually doesn't grow on leaves, but my plants became barely healthy and GDA would grow on them and turn black/brown in a few weeks, making the plants ugly. GDA has no fool-proof fert related solutions. Even Tom Barr advise getting algae eaters to deal with them. Fei feng won't help as they are nibblers, I think? Almost no other types of algae that stay long enough or prolific enough to need dealing with. My SAEs, being unfed, deals with most of the algaes.

The almost arowana-proof algae eater I just added is the Septaria porcellana snail: http://www.arowanaplantedtank.com/20...snails-almost/ Some of my rocks look brand new now... they clean the rocks better than I did with a brush.

Re: Dragon Forest II (Arowana Planted) Setup

I had to google what was GDA..
My FF helped with some form of algae but I still had some furry black/green stuff growing on my wood/rocks/plant. I do see the FF removing and sucking on them - there are a lot around still but I think is under control.

I should probably try the snails but I don't know if they will survive my other monsters..

I am very tempted to rescape haha

Vinz, you will need to scrub the tank, siphon the water 80% with those GDA pores floating after that scrub. Do it 3x a week. This will eradicate the issue at hand.

Here's an update on the fish. Full tank pics/videos only after I have it lush again.

This video is taken with an action camera mounted inside the tank. So this is the view from inside the tank. The camera is a Molify Yocam, a GoPro like action camera.

Thanks Colin. Easier said then done with a planted tank...

I'm excited to see how this turns out too(: your tanks were my very first inspiration to set up huge planted tanks
