    Maybe let it grow out and see what color it change to... if black, then its BBA (black beard algae). If green, then its GBA (green beard algae).

    I saw some longer one which turn out to be greyish. All over my sponge, plants, driftwoods, etc.. look seriously disgusting!

    No question is silly. All is about sharing and growing of knowledge. Just have difficulty searching for this type of algae, definitely my tank water is showing sigh of ubhealthiness I guess.. u also got this?

    can't remember. only impression was it was slimy/slippery if it's the same. any luck on finding a cure?

    Here's what i did and it seems to help.
    1) Turm off light
    2) dose seachem excel daily dosage
    4) tried SAE which most claim it hrlps ( nope, they just swim around in the bottom and side of tank)
    3) notice some turned reddish and few days later. GONE

    Still on going treatment for a 5 days, seems to work, but slowly.

    BBA begins to die if it turns into a bright pink/red color.After all it belong to the Rhodophyta family which is actually a red algae.
    It will turn into greyish colour before falling off.
