    It's a female of one of the fancy varieties of Platy.

    How to know which is male or female ?
    It is not like guppy which male has a anal fin

    Apparently, platies have anal fins too. Look at the picture about Male:Female ratio.

    The problem is mine doesn't have and lfs told me 1 is male and 1 is female
    the difference between mine is one is darker red and the other is brighter red and smaller

    From the pic, your red platy is a female as it lacks the male genital organ, gonopodium.

    The male of this platy does not have gonopodium

    anyone know how to really differentiate?

    Females gonopodium looks like a triangle. And males have sharp gonopodium

    You can't just assume that what the LFS ID is correct, sometimes they ID wrongly or don't even have any idea how to ID the fishes properly, so they end up just anyhow guessing.

    Here is a comparison diagram to help in differentiating livebearer fish genders:

    If you don't see any distinctly elongated gonopodium on either of the fishes, then both of them may just turn out to be females.

    Swordtails can interbreed with platys... the offspring will exhibit the characteristics of both swordtails and platys.

    But lfs say swordtail cannot put with platy cos they will bite them

    Depends on their aggression. Like rams, some may co-habit but others may not
