Today went to Sunpets Aquarium in Jalan Kayu to get few bags of ADA Amazonia Soil and went Seaview grab some others equipment.

Decided to take some pictures to show on how i setup with cheap products.

Here's how I always start up my tank.

1st Day of tank setup (31/8/14)

1: Add in a thin layer of soil and some sponge filter. I'm using aircon to chill all my tanks so I don't need any canister to link up to the chiller.

2: Fill up my tanks with di water.

3: Add in a bit of Anti Chlorine.

    Re: Simple Tank Setup

That's all for my simple setup.

I will add in plants tomorrow.

When I'm going to add shrimps into tank, I will adjust the TDS to the range which i prefer as DI water have very low TDS.

Looks like a nice rack based breeding tanks setup... what fishes or shrimps are you planning to keep?

Bai. You should add in costs involved so forumers are able to find out the costs involve to start a shrimp tank setup.
You could also add in why and how a product is able to help based on your experience
I definitely would like to know.

Price won't be nice to mention but it's really cheap for the bacteria. I'm not good in explaining as I'm more to a practical person.

    Re: Simple Tank Setup

Today is the 3rd day of tank setup.

    Throw some shrimp into tank.

New keeper please do not follow on adding shrimps in tank within a short period of time.
Please follow the proper cycling process.

For me I have been doing this for all my tanks so I know well in handling it.

I noticed you use a relatively small amount of aquasoil for the tank size (can still see the bottom edges of the tanks)... around just 1cm depth perhaps? I guess less soil also release less initial ammonia so it'll be easier and quicker for the bacteria to handle and stabilize the parameters.

    Re: Simple Tank Setup

cause i want to set up gex 600 - 60X20X25cm as a emergency tank. since my main tank got problem with soil.
will this tank size with little soil be enough to keep prl?
or can i use a substrate that i dont need to change, since im already using distilled water?
will try to get mini chiller. but dont know if it can keep tank temp down to 24 in our weather...

    Re: Simple Tank Setup

This new tank is size 30x30x30cm. For mini chiller is a TEM so this few months should be OK since weather is cooler now but hotter months, I'm not sure about that.

I think if you use distilled water and with little or no soil (if the PH not too high) is ok but need to adjust the tds. But I think with little soil better to buffer the ph and pour in the liquid bacteria and let it run for one or two days. Make sure the temperature from both tanks are about the same or climatize properly before releasing shrimps into the temporary tank. This is just what I will do if I were you but please do it at your own risk.
