yes, any surface disturbance will also cause the lost of co2. may I ask why do you need to use an airpump?

cos when i off my lights i find that my shrimps are dying so i suspect that it is due to lack of oxygen... and currently i do not have a fan to cool my tank below 29 degree... so i wanna make use of the air bubbles to cool my tank a little to prevent any further shrimp lost....

It's your temp that is killing the shrimp.

Not likely...temperature should be higher when the lights are "on" yet the shrimps are fine during that period. My guess is poor O2 levels to last the entire night and too little or no surface movement. (somewhat temperature related but you must make it clear for new folks). The other possibility is CO2 overdose (DIY CO2? Did not shut off the CO2 supply during the night).

    Could be CO2 overdose.

How's your pH and kH levels? Zero or very low kH levels are prone to CO2 overdose.

you will need to use a kH and pH testers to find if the real cause is the co2 level.

    No point guessing.

some people turn on an airpump (timed to coincide with the lights going off) to ensure no access co2 at night when the lights are off...
