I notice there's a few cone shape snails in my planted which is different from the regular one...... especially at night with the lights off you see hundreds of them small to big, day time maybe sees a few big one. biggest about 1.5cm long for the cone.

Are they harmful compare to the usual ones found in planted

These are the MTS (Malayan Trumpet Snails). They are as harmless as the normal ones found in the tank. They also eat dead plants and leftover food. Some say they also loosen the substrate by their tunneling..

Maybe puffer fish can help if you want to get rid of them.

the tunneling is supposely good for the substrate. I consider MTS, good snail and welcome them in my tank

Simon, i have never seen it before til recently.

Thanks.... I try to taken some picture on confirm if it's MTS.

rijac, sure no problem... can PM me. as long as you dont mind the ugly sight in the middle of the night. Cos they are all over the glass.... espeacilly the small ones but once morning or light is on... they seems just disappear except some big ones tunneling on the substrate.

I also don't mind snails nowadays... and since the MTS hide in the substrate in the day, all the better.
I suppose that as they tunnel into the substrate, they also shit in there and enrich the base fert.

Can get from me if interested. I just siphoned out probably > 100 during my recent water change. Still in a pail of water.
