I treated my tank with Ethromycin to eradicate BGA when I spotted some on the substrate, but alas, I didn't know I had an nitrate deficiency, browning leaves and total lack of growth..so I need to get my nitrate level up, I would like to get some Seachem product for that, as I cannot get KNO3, i know. Anyone knows if Easy-life blue exit works?

And if c328 or Natural Aquarium have seachem flourish nitrogen?

Anyone can share their BGA fighting story and how they won would be nice.

    Re: BGA Mess

Total blackout of the tank works.

I used trashbags to blackout my tank for about 4 days. After which BGA was gone and water was crystal clear. You can over feed your livestock slightly prior to the blackout. Fishes can last the 4 days no problems.

If it's minor, you can try ADA's Phyton-Git. Turn off your filter and use an string to apply around the affected area. Wait for a few minutes before turning the filer back on. Twice a week application worked for me.

ISTA Algar remover worked for me. I saw positive results in 3 days.

    Hi Edwinnnnnn!!!!! how are you???

BGA seldom goes away on it's own, just ask those that have had it in the past. A mild case might appear and go away, but this is a sign of something else.

Address the cause of the BGA to begin with and then it does not come back.

Further to your method, add: LUSHGRO AQUA after the 50% water change, do another 50% water change at the end of 3 days.

From then on, add LUSHGRO AQUA to your tank regularly.

Plants need a fair amount of NO3 and K, when these are not supplied, algae will grow. (CO2 at 20ppm minimum)

I have seen good results by spot dosing with excel. Took a while, approx 2 weeks of dosing. It was every 3 days once. Alternatively easy life blue exit should work well too. At this point I still do not trust other brands yet hahah.

    Re: BGA Mess

    Hi Colin,

Been a loooong while since I last met you.Yup, I gotten lazy with my tank and I paid the price with algae..

So, some updates from my current bout with BGA. I used easylife blue-away anti BGA..it would worked well or is it the blackout that I used in conjunction with the blackout plus seachem flourish nitrogen...

After 12 long days, I siphon the dead ones away..and did a water top up and hopefully I can get my fert regime going away..and I guess I forgotten that plants need to strive otherwise lower order algae will run amok
