    Hi All,

I have been keeping cherry shrimps for close to 3 months now and i have been having problems keeping them alive / breed. My water conditions are :

    Temp : 25-26DegC
    Ammonia / nitrite : 0 , Nitrate < 10ppm
    Gh ~5
Kh (0-1) 1 drop of the test reagent turns the colour
    TDS ~ 150-170

    Any advise? Thanks in advance!

Your tank parameters look okay... i guess your tank water might just be lacking in some of the essential minerals that the shrimps need to build their shells.

Usually shrimps tend die off over time due to molting issues, especially after water changes as that triggers them to molt.

Maybe try adding some of those beneficial shrimp mineral powders or solutions, or maybe put a mineral rock for shrimps in the tank so that they can easily replenish the minerals that they need. Its worth a try.

    Hi,

UA, thanks. I'm guessing that there could be spikes in ammonia due to all the trapped debris below my fissden mesh. I laid the entire tank with it. When i removed the mesh, there are tons of debris flying everywhere. I have just removed the mesh. I have been adding mineral plus and likewise old sea mud every change out.

Seudur, the pH is typically manitained by the soil at 6.5-6.9 depending on the time of the day.

I have justed cleared the debris and will update again!

My office tank temp is around 21~23, is it ok for the shrimp?

That temperature is fine for both RCS and CRS shrimps (except for sulawesi shrimps which require higher temperature water).

Many people have to use chillers to get that type of lower temperature levels (and usually end up with alot of water condensation on the glass), but in office environments with air-con on the whole day, its ideal for shrimp tanks and there wouldn't be any water condensation issues..

Note that with cooler water temperatures, the shrimps usually tend to grow slower (but also live longer) and the breeding/egg gestation time is also longer too.
