Just spotted two extremely tiny cardinal tetras in my 4 footer, hiding among the big bird nest of java moss, not sure if there are more inside.

Wonder if they could make it with so many rummy nose and adult tetras schooling on top the ferns..... tried to take pictures but it is almost impossible to locate them again after I left the tank, but my wife saw one swimming into the ferns... haha

    Lets all pray for them
    Cheers and Regards,
    Billy Cheong

Congratulations! Cardinal tetras are not known to spawn easily. Perhaps you should raise the fry separately if you are afraid of predation in the main tank.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

To be frank, very tough. If I have to remove all the java ferns to hunt for those minors, the rummy nose and other adults tetras will probably get there before me.

Lucky you! The conditions in your tank must be optimal to the last degrees.

Just recovering from BBA strikes actually.... I believe it is due to the cool weather recently. So I think everyone should check their tank

Good job man. This must be one of the few documented tank breeding of cardinal. Was it ever documented anywhere else? Someone whom I spoke to long time ago told me cardinal will spawn during rainy season and so must actually simulate the condition if want to captive breed.

Thanks, I can only confirm atleast one is still alive after trying to peek through the thick bush of java for almost 1 hour.

I remembered reading somewhere that cardinal tetras are "egg scatters", like a bomber plane, and they will not care for the young. The baby I witness is about 1mm thick and 5mm long. Already in full colours .

BTW, I am extremely lucky that my terrapins never like the thick bushes of java moss... else the babies will either get eaten by them or chase out of the save heaven and get eaten by the adults.

Nevermind, even if you lost them this time round, you know you're on the right track, so there's a good chance they'll spawn again. You have terrapins in your 4'? That's quite unusual.
