Hi, welcome to AQ.
3ft is a big tank,i personally will go with external canister filter rather than HOB.
It will give a clean look for the tank and there are a lot of advantages using canister filter
especially for a big tank.
Hello everyone. New to the forum here as I am an expat here in Singapore. Recently I have been discussing about build a fresh water aquarium for my office in the East, partly for Feng shui and partly I know my daughter will love it. I have a little bit of fresh water aquarium experience from my college days in the US, like 20 years ago... Anyway, I am still waiting for my electrician to see if he can put a outlet at the place where I want my tank. Mean while I tell you guys how I want to set up and welcome any input. TIA
1. probably around 15-20 gallon. rectangular. 3ft x 1ft x 2ft. Cannot be too big due to the space.
2. Aquaclear 110 HOB filter (Can I get this in Singapore??)
3. Iwagumi style with java moss carpet for foreground and java fern for background, so I can just use gravel, instead of substrate, so no algae problem.
4. Very low load tank, maybe just a school of 10 tetras
So as you can see, I just want it very simple and easy to maintain one. Can I get aquaclear HOB filter here in
Singapore? I heard it doesn't sell here. If no aquaclear, then I probably will use the 2 biowheels from Emperor.
what you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I havent got the tank yet. I thought that 15 Gallon is still considered a small one. I know that canister would give me extra water volume but more $$ and harder to clean, no? Thanks.
Hi, you mention your tank is 3ft x 1ft x 2ft,so that is 36in x 12in x 24in.
So Us gallons is 44.88 and in liters is 169.9 right?
Sorry. I got my tape measurement out yesterday and visited Seaview (a GREAT place !!!) I think I will have the standard 60cm x22cm tank, which about 10 gal, maybe a bit less so definitely small tank. I think I will settle on the Fluval c3
aaaah........ yes fluval c3 should be sufficient.

You guys have been fantastically helpful for contributing into my questions. Here is what I have so far, empty tank doing the cycling. I just set it up like for 2-3 days only. I am using API quick start, but I think Ill add in one zebra daino if I can find it in LFS in a day or 2. Just tested the water, everything at 0 but Ph a bit high at 7.4-7.6. Normal gravel substrate, no fancy ADA, as I am growing only java moss and fern.
So I guess here we go on this on going project. Thanks guys.
