congrats!! r apisto readily available in UK? r they wild or tank bred?
No simon, they are not readily available usually..
I think they are most probably tank bred.
Can you help me identify what strain i have?

u got a pic? if not, then look at the caudal fins & anal fins, if its fully red, then its either the double or the super red cacatuodies. if its partally reddish on the caudal fin then its a 'red'.. if it has a orange tail with the black markings then its a 'Orange flash'
haha
Mez congrats on your new buy !
If i had a pic, you would of seen it by now!
From Simon's description, it sounds like i have an orange flash!
These are probably the cheaper, common ones yeah?
Will they get more colour with age? my male is only 1.5"..

typo error orange flash is a orange caudal fin without the black markings.. i thin yr is either the red/double red/super red and yes, with good food, u will see the colours
Simon, do you have a link to any websites that have different strains?
here is a description of my fish:
Base colour is light gray/white
Black horizontal line running from neck to tail
Tail is orange with black markings
Ends of dorsal fin is orange with black markings
Rest of dorsal fin is a faint orange colour
Pelvic (i think thats right, the ones before the anal fin..) fins are blue with a small bit of green.
Anal fin is faint orange with black lining...
No red on it though..

I have the double red!

not really cheap.. but its available most of the time.. I had a orange flash pair and triple red pair previously, currently have a F1 red
Thanks simon!
What strain is the one in the database? is that a double red, too?
What foods would you reccomend i feed them to get the best colours from them?
Mez
Currently keeping many wild betta species and other anabantoids.
Their main source of food in the wild are water insects, moquito lava, worms , etc..
the best you can provide is BW.
MEZ: I own a pair of Double red too...their fry are already so big =)
Cheers!
Benetay
live food is the best for them
Well, they will have to stay on flake and pellets till saturday, then i will get some frozen and live bloodworm..
Benetay, thats great news! how hard are they to breed? My lfs dosnt have an apisto breeder..*rubs hands together*

MEZ you got to be shocking to know how many times tht double red pair spawn...almost every 2 wks just imagine =)
Cheers!
Benetay
Benetay,
How did you go about getting your pair to spawn?
Mez
Currently keeping many wild betta species and other anabantoids.
Small tanks 30cm by 15cm tank with a bit of gravel and just a single peice of driftwood. After they hatch i will wait for 9 days before removing all the fry...erm..i mean try to remove all...and raise it in other tank
Cheers!
