Well...tonight i was looking at my cousins marine tank since i was thinking of starting one then i noticed his protein skimmer!! i was wondering if it was a good idea to use this on a planted tank to dissolve CO2.

Instead of adjusting the airvalve like when used in a marine tank...we would connect the CO2 output here instead and then let the skimmer do its job of whirling and whatever..then the output can be connected toa rainbar within the tank!!! i think it would be soooooo efficient...and cheaper no?

Errrhh the mechanical principle of what you want to do with a protein skimmer is like those external CO2 reactor?

Protein skimmer pump air into water by means of airpump causing tiny bubbles, these bubble then carrys the excess protein to the top.

    How u intro CO2?
Will the airpump bubble just release your CO2 back into the air?

Well..mechanically yes....but the SW skimmer is more slim and not as bulky...all the external reactors i find quite bulky...where to find slim one like that? and aren't they expensive? somemore is hook on to side of tank..so don't need to screw this and that or pipe anything to filter...totally separate unit.

As for introducing Co2 to the unit...instead of pumping air..,..connect the co2 into this area...since the rate is only 2-5 bps...it should be okay.
